The Pull Up exercise is very versatile, it can be used to develop core strength with focus in arms or different back zones.
So there is not a single way to do a correct pull-up, there exists variations to focus in different body areas.

Grip
Different grips work different muscle groups.
A close grip (hands closer, more together in the bar), exercises middle portion of the back.
A wide grip pull-up, focus more on the side and exterior part of the back.
